Nanoparticles Enhance Neural Implant Performance

A recent study titled “Dexamethasone-loaded platelet-inspired nanoparticles improve intracortical microelectrode recording performance,” led by Andrew Shoffstall, reveals how dexamethasone-loaded nanoparticles (SPPINDEX) enhance brain implant effectiveness. Using NeuroNexus 16-channel single-shank intracortical microelectrodes (A1x16-3mm-100-177-Z16), researchers demonstrated that SPPINDEX significantly reduced inflammation, repaired the blood-brain barrier, and preserved neuron health, improving neural recording quality crucial for brain-machine interfaces.
