Adapters & Interface Boards

Join a probe package to a headstage or acquisition system it was not terminated for: connector-pair adapters in 78 pairings, electrode interface boards, and breakout and X-Series adapters.

How to find the adapter you need

Name the two connectors: the one on your probe package and the one on your headstage or acquisition system. Most pairings are one product, the NeuroNexus Connector-Pair Adapter: open it, choose the input connector (package side) and the output connector (headstage side), and the pairing you need is the configuration you add to your quote. An Omnetics 32 to Omnetics 16 adapter, for example, is input Omnetics 32, output Omnetics 16. A remap adapter changes which pin carries which channel, so confirm the site-to-channel map before the first recording.

Connector-pair adapters

One product, 78 pairings. Package side: Omnetics 16, 32 and 64, A16, A32, A64, ZIF 16, 32 and 64, CQ4, Q4, QIB. Headstage side: Omnetics, A-series, ZIF, Mill-Max, Intan RHD evaluation, Blackrock Cerebus, A-M Systems, BrainAmp, Plexon, SmartLink. With 2×, 4×, breakout, female–female and MRI-conditional builds.

Connector-Pair Adapter

Electrode interface boards

EIB rails to X3 and X3SR headstages, EIB-16 and EIB-32 to M1P probe connectors, and the X3 jumper and extension set, for tetrode and wire-bundle rigs on X-Series headstages.

Breakout and system adapters

The High-Density Matrix adapter breaks a micro-HDMI Matrix input out to four or eight Omnetics 32 or ZIF 64; the X-Series connector adapter brings Omnetics, A-series, HDMI and micro-HDMI connectors onto X3, X3SR and X6 inputs; the Kontex system adapter docks a Neuropixels probe into the XDAQ chain.

What the connector codes mean

Adapter names read input to output, in the NeuroNexus package connector codes.

OM16, OM32, OM64

Omnetics nano connectors with 16, 32 and 64 channels; OM8 is the 8-channel Omnetics.

A16, A32, A64

A-series packages: A16 on a DIP-16 Mill-Max connector, A32 on a Samtec 40-pin, A64 on two Samtec 40.

Z16, Z32, Z64

Hirose ZIF connectors, for TDT ZIF-Clip headstages.

CQ4, Q4

The edge connectors on Q-Trode packages.

X3, X3SR, X6, M1P, EIB

X-Series headstage inputs, M1P probe connectors and electrode interface boards on the X-Series platform.

Adapters & Interface Boards — FAQ

Name the two connectors: the one on your probe package (for example Omnetics 32, A32, ZIF 16) and the one on your headstage or acquisition system. The NeuroNexus connector-pair adapter is one product in 78 pairings; on its product page choose the input connector (package side) and the output connector (headstage side), and the pairing is the configuration you quote. A remap adapter changes which pin carries which channel, so confirm the site-to-channel map before the first recording. If no pairing matches, ask an Application Scientist; the X-Series connector adapter covers inputs to X3, X3SR and X6 headstages.

An EIB routes probe channels to a standard connector for chronic implants, letting you connect and disconnect the headstage across sessions.

Yes. The connector-pair adapter has outputs for Intan RHD evaluation boards, Blackrock Cerebus, A-M Systems, BrainAmp, Plexon 8 and TDT ZIF-Clip (Hirose ZIF 16, 32 and 64), as well as Omnetics and A-series connectors used by Open Ephys and other Omnetics-based headstages. Choose the package connector as the input and the system connector as the output.

Yes. It is a configuration of the NeuroNexus connector-pair adapter: input connector Omnetics 32, output connector Omnetics 16 (SKU adptnnx--pair.om32.om16, NetSuite item Adpt.Omnetics32-Omnetics16). A 2× version splits one Omnetics 32 onto two Omnetics 16 (adptnnx--pair.om32.om16.x2), and the reverse direction, Omnetics 16 to Omnetics 32, is adpt_nnx--pair.om16.om32. Choose the pairing on the adapter's product page and request a quote from the cart.

They are NeuroNexus package connector codes. A16 is the 16-channel A-series package on a DIP-16 (Mill-Max) connector; A32 is the 32-channel A-series package on a Samtec 40-pin connector; A64 is two Samtec 40. Z16, Z32 and Z64 are Hirose ZIF connectors for TDT ZIF-Clip headstages. OM16, OM32 and OM64 are Omnetics nano connectors with 16, 32 and 64 channels; OM8 is the 8-channel Omnetics. CQ4 and Q4 are the edge connectors on Q-Trode packages. An adapter name reads input to output: A32 → Omnetics 32 takes an A32 package and presents an Omnetics 32.
