DBS Series — rDBSA Research Arrays

Hardware
A DBS Series array (rDBSA, research deep brain stimulation array) reproduces the geometry of a clinical deep-brain lead on a single long shaft with 32 or 40 individually addressable contacts in a line along it, so any contact can stimulate, record, or both.

Because the contacts are addressed individually, the distance between the stimulating and the recording contact is an experimental variable rather than a fixed property of the lead. Stimulation artifact sets the usable recording window after each pulse, so the recovery interval is planned with the protocol; the stimulator is the Intan RHS2116 in an X-Series stim-record headstage on XDAQ, at 10 nA to 2.5 mA per channel. Leads are 35, 45 and 60 mm, for subthalamic nucleus and globus pallidus targets in large-animal models; a rat-sized build keeps the contact arrangement at smaller scale. The packages are under DBS package.
