Q-Trode Series Silicon Probes

Hardware
A Q-Trode Series probe places four recording sites in a tight cluster on a single silicon shank, so a spike sorter separates overlapping units by the amplitude ratio across the four; it gives single-unit isolation at one depth rather than a profile across depth.

Photolithography places the cluster in the same position on every probe, so the geometry a sorter assumes is the geometry it gets. Site area is the isolation variable: a smaller site records a more local signal and sharpens the amplitude differences the sorter uses. Catalog designs are single-shank at 3, 5 or 10 mm with four sites at 121, 177 or 703 µm². The packages, CQ4 connector and optoelectrode builds, are under Q-Trode package; the multi-cluster version is the polytrode and tetrode layout.
