SmartLink Headstages
A SmartLink headstage plugs directly into the probe package's own connector — DIP, Omnetics, ZIF or Samtec — and digitizes on an Intan RHD chip with no adapter between package and headstage; engineered and built by NeuroNexus, it is the headstage for acute and bench-side recording at 16, 32 or 64 channels.
SmartLink 16 takes DIP-16, Omnetics-16 or ZIF-16; SmartLink 32 takes Samtec-40 or Omnetics-32; SmartLink 64 takes Samtec-40 or Omnetics-64. Removing the adapter removes a connection to seat and a part to source, which is why it is the usual headstage on an acute rig.
All three weigh 2.0 g, record only, have no accelerometer, and are not sealed against moisture or chemicals; those are the trades for the direct mate. The chip is the RHD2132 on the 16 and 32 and the RHD2164 on the 64, on an SPI bus with a 3.2 to 3.6 V supply, with output to Mil-Max or micro-HDMI for an XDAQ or a Smartbox. Choose a SmartLink when the package connector is one it takes and the animal is head-fixed or on the bench; choose an X-Series headstage when mass, motion on the neural clock, a cage or stimulation decide it.
