Neural Probes · A-Series (Polytrode & Tetrode)
8-Shank 256-Channel Probe, 5 mm
Sites clustered rather than spread — polytrode and tetrode groups a sorter can separate
Eight mid-length shanks side by side, closely spaced for coverage within one structure, with sites staggered in two columns so neighbouring sites see the same units. Among the 371 probe designs in the design space it is mid-range: 256 sites (99th percentile), 5 mm shanks (a common choice — 107 of 363), a 0.32 mm-deep site array (18th percentile), 735 sites/mm² (78th percentile) and a 0.65 mm³ neural interface (51st percentile).
Small sites read a local patch at higher impedance, sharpening single-unit isolation, packed densely enough to track a unit across neighbouring sites. The mid-length shanks reach structures a few millimetres down.
Orders as a probe-plus-package assembly, in 8 package configurations. Silicon 15 µm thick. Z-coat not available on this close-spaced poly layout. Research use only.
