A single long shank with sites spread evenly down the shank, one per row, for a profile across depth. Among the 371 probe designs in the design space it is in the lower quartile: 4 sites (5th percentile), 18 mm shanks (99th percentile of the 366 measured), a 0.31 mm-deep site array (17th percentile), 857 sites/mm² (83rd percentile) and a 0.21 mm³ neural interface (4th percentile).
Small sites read a local patch at higher impedance, sharpening single-unit isolation, spaced for a laminar profile. The long shank reaches deep targets.
